Gabrielle Whittinghill
My name is Gabby Whittinghill and I play and work for Chicago City Soccer Club. I started playing in their inaugural women’s season and currently still play with the USLW team. On the working side of CCSC I am the events coordinator and help with fundraising. I started working with the club in July of this year but have helped on a volunteer basis before that.
I was born in Chicago, grew up in the suburbs and now live back in Chicago. I have played soccer since before I can remember. Through soccer I’ve learned a lot about myself and who I am as a person. I am a physical education teacher and varsity soccer coach for a women’s high school team and a men’s high school team. What got me into teaching is the relationships I formed with my coaches and P.E. teachers. These relationships are what I strive for as a teacher, coach, and colleague.
Continuing with playing soccer and taking an importance in these relationships led me to working with CCSC. Playing on their women’s side and having those similar relationships with coaches and staff made me want to get more involved. Also, believing in their vision and the opportunities they were creating for all levels and ages. You can see their intentions and that they were doing things right. That was something I wanted to be a part of.
A few fun facts about me are that my family has a restaurant with the best homemade Italian ice in the city called Carm’s Beef. My favorite soccer team is the USWNT and current favorite player is Rose Lavelle. I also have the cutest beagle you’ll ever see named Myla!
